Flair For Writing
Fantasy Newsletter Special Edition ![]() Editor: Princess Megan Rose Princess Megan Rose 10 Years Assistant Editor: Angel Angel Hello Everyone! How is your summer going? Indiana is hot and has rain off and on. We thought we would make the newsletter early this month. Angel still does her beautiful art work. She is an artist in every sense of the word. We hope that you like fantasy. We are going to write about Fantasy Races. The info was taken from THE WRITER'S COMPLETE FANTASY REFERENCE From the Editors of Writer's Digest Books. This book is loade with everything you wanted to know about fantasy but was afraid to ask. We hope you will enjoy this issue. Another issue will be written next month on more Fantasy. The imaginative beings of fantasy. Oh, yes! There were different races of them like us humans. Elves and unicorns look different of course as do dragons and fairies. Let's talk about these adorable creatures. Dwarves. They are shorter then humans and are always stocky. They have beards and live in the under world. Some were considered miners like Snow White's seven dwarfs. The dwarves lived in caves of Nidavellir in Norse Mythology. They made Thor's hammer. There was also Rumplestiltskin who spun straw into gold. One dwarf was written to have had a blue beard! How cute! Women and male dwarves alike had beards. Interesting. They like to pretend they carry swords and gather in under ground bars at night to drink and sing songs. Elves. They are smaller then dwarves and have pointed ears. they are considred to be beautiful. Fairies are like elves and are always dressed in forest green. They are believed to be magical. Most elves and fairies live in the forest but some live by the Norse Gods. They love to play tricks on people. Some elves taught humans music, language and other skills. In some legends, elves have power over trees like in Green People of the Valley. Sometimes, they had dark powers. Course, we all know Santa's elves whom I am sure are everyone's favorites. I love the elf Princess in Lord of the Rings and her father and of course, Orlando Bloom's character. Fairies are winged, tiny creatures. Remember Tinkerbell? They like to fool humans with illusions. They live in forests and fairy hills. They have been known to steal children and leave a doll in it's place. They are said to sprinkle magic dust in some stories. Giants Giants are huge humans and there were Titians in Greek Mythology. They were of gigantic statue and could trample humans like ants. We have all heard of Cyclopes, the Jolly Green Giant and Jack and the Beanstalk's giant. We can't forget Paul Bunyon. Rock and Frost Giants were part of the Norse mythology. There was the thunder God Thor. There were also giants in the Bible like Goliath who was slayed by David. Some giants traveled in sea faring ships. They are a noble and majestic race. Goblins. Halloween? Goblins wear hats and are bowed litle people. Some infested tunnels and caves in some stories. They are homely for the most part. Goblins and dwarves are ancient enemies. Both love to torment mankind. Hobbits. Lord of the Rings. They were small creatures with huge feet and didn't wear shoes. Weren't they adorable? They were two to four feet high. Their feet had leather soles. They like to drink tea and smoke pipes. They lived in cute little houses. Merfolk. Mermaids and mermen. They are half fish and human. They have fish tales and fins with human faces. They live under the sea. Remember Ariel? Some mermaids drag men to live below with them to live with them under the sea. For the most part, they got to be human and married mortal men. They fell in love with sailors. The Sirens lured ships to destruction and killed men with their beautiful singing voices. Trolls. Talk about ugly. They are large in size but short. They can turn to stone if struck by sunlight. They usually lived in caves and mountains. I personally like the cute, naked troll dolls that came out in the 60's. Thailand is said to have had phi that resemble fairies and live in trees and waterfalls. They cause humans ill will. These creatures appear in fantasy stories and are the true key to breathing life into characters. Fantasy. A world that lives in our imagination but then again if we lived a thousand years ago, maybe we would have met them. Makes you think. Angel and I hoped that you have enjoyed this issue. Next month, we will write about unicorns, dragons and mystical creatures. I hope that you wil join us. Feel free to send us e-mails anytime. We would love to hear from you. We will be writing Halloween and Christmas newsletters next. We love these. Any Halloween, Christmas or Fantasy stoties or ideas, please let us know. Have a great Labor Day.
