One Foot in Heaven
For just one moment Faint echo of exalted chorus Breaks into my dreaming, Veil rips, slipping, As blinking, Blinded by the Light, I open sleep-encrusted eyes And get a glimpse of heaven Right here ‘Midst the drowsing crowd. Can’t we see the throne and King; Hear heaven’s voices blend with ours As eternity, kneeling, Praises One beyond all praise; Taste the honeyed sweetness of Feast hidden in Flesh and Blood, His and ours? Insensate, we drowse, One foot in heaven Yet oh, so lost in dream.
