God's Hand has struck me.
My girl has left me,
Eyes wide and crying,
Down the last steps,
Out the front door.

My girl has left me,
Gone for some time now,
No trace apparent,
Though far I explore.

My girl has left me,
Days and nights pass,
Tear on my cheek,
Surely not the last.

My girl has left me,
Not very old,
I search by a river,
And what it beholds.

My girl has left me,
A dry, broken man,
My girl has left me,
The mercy of God's hand.
