ODE TO THE POET Delivered from the heart True poetry is born Clings to life within your mind As clings a rose’s thorn ~ Loud and boastfully the sound, Or near silence is the tone Bringing that of happiness, Or deep chilling to the bone ~ Pictures that you clearly see Soft and sometimes bold Until the trembling of the hand At long last grows too old ~ They panned the streams of life And left to us their gold A lifetime of words undying In verses that they told. ©2/13/04 Monty
