Through the Window I was looking through the window, to watch the sky go racing by. Clouds were dotted light with silver And winking a hundred puffy eyes. Birds were tilting gray-striped wings, While pirouetting and dipping. I’m sure their little, golden beaks Were flapped open-wide in song. It might be they were dancing, For the clouds began to move, Twirling ripples full of fluff Like somersaulting pillows. Then the sun cascaded rays, Bulging rivers of yellow haze, That drooled a thousand colors With a multi-hued “hello.” Soon a thousand other stars, Began to flare and flicker, Lighting up the heavens Like the sky was on parade. Our rocket soared up higher And my eyes were to the pane, For I could not believe The wonder of this celestial ballet. The planets all grew arms And held each other’s hands. They bobbed, and then they curtseyed, And spun themselves around. My mouth was one great circle, Astounded by my view. I tried to show my mother, But her eyes were solid closed, So I watched the dancing visions And laughed at all the frolic. I’d never seen a scene like that While looking through a window.
