REACHING OUT A HAND TO GOD I took it all for granted In the days when I was young Didn’t know I was on a ladder, I’d be climbing rung by rung Just lying there in a field of green, looking up at a clear blue sky Thinking time was a forever thing, not knowing it would soon go by Now I know I’m on life’s ladder And fast approaching is the top I can look back down upon the past But climbing I can’t stop Someday I’ll lie in a field again, When I’ve reached the topmost rung I’ll begin another path, There to be forever young Because that day my body will be resting Beneath earth’s rich green sod But my soul will be in that forever time, Reaching out a hand to God © 4/30/03 Monty
