I am writing about some of Ireland's haunted castles. I hope you will find these frightning.

Foulksrath Castle

The Ghost On The Stairs

Folksrath Castle was built in the thirteenth century and was owned by Fulco De La Frene. It is a solid stone building in the countryside and is in a peaceful seclusion. A door can be heard opening every November 29 and a ghost of a man can be seen on the stairs. A soldier fell asleep while on guard duty and La Frene was so furious that he pushed the man to his death from the top of the castle. The soldier ghost makes an appearance every year on November 29, the anniversary of his death.

The ghost of a woman can be seen wandering the winding stairway. She had been in love with the soldier and her father forbid her to see him. In a tantrum, she raced down the stairs screaming and tripped over her skirts and fell down the stairs and broke her neck. You can hear her skirts flapping and smell her fragrance of wild flowers. You will also feel a cool breeze when she is near and catch a glimpse of her.

Huntington Castle

This castle was built by the 1st Lord Esmonde. It has a spell binding quality and dark, creaking corridors, crammed with suits of armor, dusty family portraits and books with cob webs. This castle is eerie and haunted. Its entwined branches form a long and mysterious tunnel that could easily lead to a gateway of time. {I would like to go through this tunnel!} It leads to a monastery. Ghosts of monks can be seen walking from the tunnels. Lord Esmonde first wife's ghost can be seen in the garden combing her long hair by the moonlight and wailing in grief stricken anguish waiting for her sons to return from the war.

A soldier in ghost form has been known to knock on the door . He was shot through the grille of the door in the uniform of the Royal opposition in the seventeenth century when his own men didn't recognize him.

Barbara St. Lege married into the family and her spirit can be seen walking the corridors jangling her keys as well as the form of her maid, Honor Byrne who pauses to polish all the door handles with her hair. Bishop Leslie of Limerick, haunts the four poster room, where he stayed when he lived at the castle. The Bishop's face also appears in a portrait of a Spanish Flower Girl. This has frightened guests through the years.

Huntington Castle is considered a magical and timeless place with an unique atmosphere.

Castle Leslie

This is the famous castle where Paul McCartney and Heather Mills were married at.

Sir John Leslie and his pretty young wife Constance lived at this castle in 1878. She hated the sight of her husband when he got older and she still looked young as she was several years younger then him. She had flowers placed at the middle of the table so she wouldn't have to look at him. Her ghost has been seen walking down the halls of the castle.

In the Red Room, Lady Marjorie Leslie saw the ghost of her son Norman in this room who was killed in World War 1. He can be seen going through dresser drawers by present day guests.

Spofforth Castle

This castle was built in the fifteenth century in North Yorkshire. It was once belonged to the Percy Family. It is an abandoned relic as of this day and is in ruins.

A ghost of a woman of bluish-white hue can be seen on top of the tower. She will throw herself to the ground but only the upper half of her body is visible. It is not known who she is but it is believed that she killed herself.

I hope you have enjoyed reading these tales. I got my info from: Haunted Castles Of Britain and Ireland By Richard Jones
