Shattered Dreams
When a heart breaks from a dream that wasn't

I hold out my broken heart for you to see.
Tears welling up in my eyes
Is the blood seeping from my heart.
So much of me is asking why.
A victim of such shattered hopes,
Why don't you just let me die?
You told me that you loved me,
Then you turned and ran away.
Looking at the empty horizon,
The setting sun turns a cold, blood red.
I feel you have told me a lie.
I am left all alone, bereft of any hope.
Chasing an illusion I was calling a dream.
A lost, thirsty and dying man
Dropped in a desert to chase a mirage.
I bring the water to my lips
But end up with a mouthful of sand.
There comes a time to dream,
There comes a time to face the world.
I have been shaken awake,
And the dream disappeared.
How I wished you were real.
They say tomorrow is another day,
But I'll never have this dream again.
