Baylee Ballerina
Inspired by my friend Baylee, who's only ten, but already dances like an angel.

Baylee Ballerina was a bouncy, bubbly girl
And her favourite thing to do was jump and pirouette and twirl.
She danced and sang and giggled through each bright and fun-filled day,
And cast her smile upon the world, in her cheerful, chipper way.

On her feet were ballet slippers, in her heart, there was a song,
And everyone was happier when Baylee danced along
And graced them with her presence. They loved having her around,
For, with Baylee by their side, it was impossible to frown!

So, one day when Bay came bouncing, skipping, twirling on her feet,
En route to the school playground, someone said, "It would be neat,
For us all to get up off our seats, and join the merry dance!
I'm sure that we'll be awesome if we give ourselves a chance!"

So they began to follow Baylee, but they bumbled, tripped, and stumbled,
And then Old Grouchy Gus said, in a grim, disgruntled mumble,
"We'll never dance like Baylee, so what's the point of trying?
It's not as easy as it looks, it's much too stultifying
That Baylee's only ten years old, and I am eighty-three,
And yet, she's so much better at this dancing thing than me!"

So Baylee turned to Grouchy Gus, and told him, "That's okay!
These things take years of training, and it's only your first day,
I'll teach you how to dance, but it won't happen overnight,
But if you all believe you can, I know you'll get it right!"

So Baylee slowed her dancing, and the others followed suit
(And watching Gus twirl on his toes was really quite a hoot!)
But before the sun went down that day, they all were dancing too,
And Baylee smiled and told the folks, "I'm really proud of you!
For, dancing isn't easy, but you tried and persevered,
Despite the chance of failure, which I know some people feared.
If you practice and work hard, then you'll be Broadway stars one day,
And if people ask you how you learned, just quote the Book of Bay:

Don't ever give up on your dreams, or else you'll never know
How talented you really are, or just how far you'll go
With a little bit of patience, and a little bit of heart,
And a willingness to work hard, that's where legends always start.

So, when you see me dance along, with nonchalance and ease,
Remember that it only LOOKS like dancing is a breeze,
Behind the fancy footwork, there's no magic, just ambition,
That drives me ever forward, so my goals achieve fruition.
Every journey starts with just one step, so take that step today,
And begin your dance to stardom, the Baylee Ballerina way."
