DRAGONFLY

DRAGONFLY

What kind of costume do you want this year
for trick-or-treating?
asked my mother dear.

Quick as a wink, came my reply,
I want to be a Halloween pennant dragonfly.

I've been reading a book Bugs Of the World
and I'm sick of the costumes designed just for girls.

I long to have wings striped orange and black.
Don't want to be a princess, a fairy, a cat.

I showed up at school on Halloween day
and all the kids gawked with not much to say.

They guessed I was a bug, a beetle, a fly.
Not at all I'm a Halloween pennant dragonfly.

For original costume I got first place.
Isn't it cool, that girls can like bugs and still win the race?

Note:The Halloween pennant dragonfly(Celithemis epinona)lives in marsh and swampland and has lovely orange and black striped wings.
