THE COST
may be too high - but you can't give up

THE COST

Trouble has a way of coming
just when life seems to be good
and there's no way to change it
even if you should or could.

Sometimes the cost is too high;
not just in dollars and cents...
Sometimes you have to realize
that there is no real defense.

The heartache and the sorrow
close upon you like a vice
when you find out the answers
are not looking very nice.

Sleepless nights as you walk
the floor and pray for peace;
morning breaks with no hope
that the trouble will cease.

The eyes will tell the story
of how deep the pain has been
and you wonder, will he ever
be able to come home again?

That little boy you raised
with love and tenderness,
has grown into a man of pain
who followed his own quest.

He has stumbled and fallen
in the darkest kind of day
and looks to some salvation
and is learning how to pray.

I don't know the reasons
but I cannot leave him lost;
I'll search for the boy he was
no matter what the cost.
