A damask rose, left on a pillow-case
Or pressed between the pages of a book, Brings memories of my true lover's face, And call to mind his handsome, loving look. The faded pink and brown-tinged petals lie; A remnant of the love, once bright and new, And bring about a heartfelt, wistful sigh, That hearts could once again be warm and true. Best leave it there, to hold safe and secure, The tears of parting, and our passion's kiss. It tells of ardent longing, fond and pure, And sadness that it all could end like this. So, sleep, sweet rose and keep your secrets tight, But stay upon my pillow one more night. ![]()
