The Wishing Well

Hundreds of fairies are surrounding us;
little pixies spreading their magic dust.
As we stand at the edge of the wishing well,
we fall under their enchanting spell.

I don't know, and neither does he
we are wishing for the same thing.
Both searching for that someone to love,
only that one sent from up above.

Our fingers barely touch, and we both pull back.
Startled at first, but thinking, I like that.
It happens again, and they linger this time.
We're being coaxed on by dozens of sprites.

The wind starts to blow. The lights are awhirl.
Things suddenly change for this boy and girl.
We face each other after throwing in our dimes.
"What's your name," we say at the same time.

We hear a clap of thunder, then the rain comes down.
"Want a milkshake from that shop downtown?"
There's no way that I'm missing out on this:
a chance of falling in love, and of happiness.

After our date, I wear a smile on my face,
the same one that began at that mystical place;
that wishing well where our hearts entwined.
One wish, two dimes, and our fate was aligned.
