THE MIGHTY FREIGHT TRAIN
I think of it often, Remember it well, Smoke in the air, Sound of its bell. Rumble it made, Clack of the wheels, It thundered along, Steel upon steel. Carried the freight, Brought also mail, On through the snow And the mightiest gale. Linked most all towns, In many a state, Gave passenger service, Seldom was late. Over a ribbon of steel, It’s near made its way, Back into history, A shadow today. Still I remember, How through town it came, The shriek of the whistle, The mighty freight train. Monty
