This Christmas newsletter is about Grandfather Frost and recipes.
Flair For Writing
Christmas Newsletter Issue 2
Editor: Megan Rose Princess Megan Rose 11 Years
Assistant Editor: Angel Angel

Greetings, Everyone! We hope that you had a good Thanksgiving. My husband and I had his parents at our house and our son and his wife. The lights went out and we use to use our generator but the dinner was good and we had a good time.
Angel had Phliip's mother and sister over for Thanksgiving. Phillip's sister Gates is a published author. Angel and I are looking forward to Christmas. I have my glass tree up, Toy Factory itemPrunds like a toy factory that I got at Michaels. So cute!} and a porcelain tree up. I will get my tree up next weekend. Angel will be decorating, too.

In this issue, we are going to talk about Grandfather Frost and some recipes. I had some help from my Christmas Encyclopedia and Halllmark: A Christmas To Remember By: Alice Gray and Susan Wales If you are ready, we will start the newsletter. Grab a cup of hot chocolate. Enjoy!

Grandfather Frost became Russia's official winter season gift bringer from 1917 to 1991. He symbolized the piercing cold of Russia's winters. His granddaughter, the Snow Maiden supposedly accompanied him on his travels.

Grandfather Frost probably evolved from the "frost."Gifts of food were left for him to satisfy his hunger so that his icy touch wouldn't hurt the crops.

By the nineteenth century, Grandfather Frost was being thought of a as friendly character. He became like Santa Claus, delivering gifts on Christmas Eve. He ignored the bad children and didn't threaten them like he had years ago. He was pictured as wearing a long red robe with white fur and a red hat. Grandfather Frost was known as Baboushka and he had refused to join the Magi's invitation to see baby Jesus all those years ago. He bought gifts to the children every Christmas hoping to be forgiven. We{the US} have Santa Claus and Russia has Grandfather Frost.

We all know what lamb's wool is. It is also a drink that the foam resembles lamb's wool. Most recipes include: roasted, chopped apples. The soft whitish chunks of apples float to the top and looks like lamb's wool. Some recipes include: crumbled toast instead of the apples, cream, beaten milk or beaten eggs. This recipe dates back to the middle ages.

Sugared Rose Petals

2 dozen, fresh rose petals washed
1 cup pre-packaged egg whites
1/2 cup granulated sugar
Small paintbrush

Beat the eggwhites in a bowl untill they are frothy. With a small brush, carefully apply a thin coat of the egg whites to both sides of the petal. Sprinkle the petal evenly with the sugar. Shake off any excess sugar and place the petal on a cake rack or waxed paper to dry over night. Arrange petals in a sugar bowl and serve with silver tongs to sweeten and float in tea. The petals can also be arranged upon cakes and cookies for edible decoration.

Eggnog French Toast

2 eggs
1/2 eggnog
2 tablespoons butter
1/8 nutmeg
4 slices of cinnamon raisin bread

Beat the eggs and eggnog together. Add the nutmeg and cinnamon. Soak each slice of bread in the egg mixture until it is coated and set it aside. Melt the butter in a skillet. Add the bread and heat until each piece is golden. Flip the bread over and repeat with the other side. Serves 4.

Rosebud Pomande{not a food item}
These are elegant and children will love to make these.
3-inch Stryofoam Ball
Essential oil of rose
White glue
6 ounces of dried miniature rosebuds

Cover the top half of the foam ball with glue. Completely cover the top half of the ball with rosebuds. Let dry and repeat with the lower half of the ball. Sprinkle oil of rose over the ball and spray with hairsray to fix. For a variation, you can use pine cones instead and use drops of oil of pine. I made one of these in Girl Scouts years ago.

Angel and I hope that you have enjoyed this issue. There will be one more Christmas issue. We do hope you will be watching all your favorite Christmas shows. I just love Rudolph and Prancer.

Here is an item from Vicki that was nicely written:

Thank you, Vicki.
If you have any ideas to submit, e-mail Angel or myself. Christmas will soon be here again. We hope that you are looking forward to it as much as we are. Love: Megan and Angel
