THE TRAIL OF TEARS

A trail of tears and heartache
on a road that never ends
are words she puts on paper
in the message that she sends
trying so hard to please someone
and facing only cloudy skies,
rain turns her road to mud again
and within her soul she cries.

Her road has far too many hills
and climb each one she must,
yet the way gets ever steeper
as she searches for love’s trust.
~
Elusive is the love she seeks
compared to the one she lost,
for no two people are the same
but a broken heart’s the cost,
of living a lifetime all alone
and spending her remaining years
with no joy still left in living,
on this road, the trail of tears.
