A SOFT GOODBYE

The city with it's bright lights
somehow can not erase the memory
of waiting for your call to come;
now the night is history.

The stores are full of shoppers
all so busy and intent,
finding ways to show their love
with the money they've spent.

I turn away in silence
remembering your eyes, your kiss
and I wonder how we managed
to ever come to this...

Mid-winter is upon us
with a chill I breathe the air
and watch as each snowflake
falls, seemingly without a care.

A soft goodbye to love we've said,
the pain way too deep to share;
my only thoughts are how can I
get from here - to there?
