FIRST KISS Of WINTER
I saw only one snowflake in the silence last night, then woke to the wind’s song and a morning of white. Now I have to get busy and clear out the driveway, of snow so wet and heavy, It will take me all day. We are sure to lose power, in my mind there’s no doubt. My wife just called out to me, said “the lights have gone out.” Some dry wood in the fireplace will give plenty of heat. On an old propane camp stove, we’ll cook something to eat. We have flashlights and candles, that may not be so bright but going to bed early, we will not need much light. More storms will be coming, even much worse than this. It is just the beginning, Winter sent its first kiss. 12/8/05 Monty
