Valerie had no Place to go on Christmas

Every year while my children were young I always managed to run into someone who was away from home at Christmas or they were left alone because they had no family at all. I would ask them to come and have Christmas Eve dinner with us. Oh, we met some interesting people but one who became such a great friend was Valerie. She was awkward in appearance with a huge heart! She studied with the Native Americans on natural healing because she had cancer. She had done so much research on this and I so wanted her to overcome the cancer. The hospitals were taking her away a piece at a time. With each treatment Valerie was weak and sad so the Native American way was what she wanted to do and I, as a friend supported her move to New Mexico. The last time she left me she gave me a rock heart necklace that would keep me from having troubles with my heart. She passed away the year she gave me that stone but the memories of the two Christmas' she spent with me will remain in my heart forever.

Her ashes are now spread in the forest. I sent her daughter a journal where I had written quotes she loved and letters about our times together.
This my fellow writers is what Christmas is all about. I don't know if you are wishing for an i pod (I don't even know what one is) but look around there are so many hurting. Give to them personal y. I don't have much, some would even call me poor but I can give some thing even if it's a smile.
