First Year

First steps along his lifelong path.
First words to tickle ears and heart.
First cries against uncaring world.
First hugs held tight to mother's chest.

First flight held up by father's hand.
First tears when laughing would not work.
First twinkle in his eyes, like Dad's.
First burp to rid himself of gas.

First grasp of fingers holding tight.
First kiss upon your cheek ... so light.
First breath. He took your breath away!
First mem'ry of that special day.

When you became the world for him
and he the sighing of your soul.
