And yet again...
The follower grabs hold of me. It drapes an arm around my neck ...And swallows me. It drapes its arm around my waist ...And fondles me. And I look up at the sky As it smothers me. For I knew all along It was coming for me. I didn't run from it, no, I didn't hide or flee I stood still in fear of it... And then fell to my knees. Maybe I knew it was coming To kill me... Maybe I wanted it to, Maybe it thrilled me. It offered me a nectar... Laced with strychnine. Whilst brandishing a dagger... With a honey-tipped tine. Now, its teeth are as swords That run through me. And they let out my blood As it woos me. "I should've fought harder", I cry, As I fall to the earth and give up my life, "I have known your weakness, We've fought many times. So, I should've overpowered you with might!" But it only grins, As its talons dig into me, And says, "My dear, You only fight senselessly! What you wanted was a moment of light... It was this that I gave you, And this is the price... Any fire that burns Will be fleeting, But, those that burn best Will burn briefly."
