Honorable Mention--2010
Do Ya Wanna Dance? "Do ya wanna dance?" The young boy asked While staring at his shoes. Then he led me to the floor. While swaying to the music We fell in love that night. As our song began to play. "Do ya wanna dance?" he asked. It was our first as man and wife. As we stared into each other's eyes, Though others joined us on the floor, In our hearts we were the only ones. The children were in their beds, And our day's work was done, "Do ya wanna dance?" he asked He put his arms around me, Hummed our favorite song, And twirled me round the room. On the porch one starry night I heard that lovely tune again. He leaned on his cane and whispered, "Do ya wanna dance?" Then he sat beside me And gently swayed the swing. At his funeral I requested That song that meant so much. And as I stood beside him, My only comfort was this. One day, I'll hear his voice again. "Do ya wanna dance?" check out this piece of prose
