Modern Woman

forces tearing
confusion blaring
striving, gaining
not remaining

exhausted, tired
feeling mis-wired
out of focus, disjointed
disappointed

hook misses eye
no button, just hole
there's a speck in the eye
of my gaping role

I find courage and power
somehow on I go
stringing my life
like Odysseus his bow

I lace up my life
a corset to bind it
looking for breath
but unable to find it

I'm a woman, I know
who I am, I'm not sure
but I know who I'll be
when I set myself free
