I wish that I could write some verse That doesn’t sound clichéd – or worse; A poem the critics all will praise And talk about for days and days. But every time I try to write, It comes out all confused and trite. The words I need refuse to come, And the end result is so ho-hum! Most poets that I read can do it; They write as if there’s nothing to it. Their words all flow, their lines all rhyme; Maybe it’s just a matter of time. So I’ll keep on adding to my list, Trying to catch that thing I’ve missed, And one day a masterpiece I’ll pen - I’d better get to work and try again!
