Rhiannon was the daughter of Heveydd Hen and she lived with her father all her life until she married Pwyll. She gave birth to a son and six women were given the responsibilty of watching her and the baby. The women fell asleep and the baby was kidnapped. The six women lied to Rhiannon about her baby. They claimed the baby was killed by a woman from the underworld and ripped to shreds. The women killed baby fawns and ripped them apart and left the gross remains in bed next to Rhiannon. She pleaded with the women to tell the truth but they didn't. The village claimed Rhiannon was mad and she should be killed for "killing" her baby. The heartbroken Celtic woman believed that she had done it because she was crazy. She lost her place at her husband's side and was forced to live outside the castle gates for seven years. She told everyone that she had killed her baby. She believed that she had an evil side.
A noble man Teurnon lived a few miles from the castle of Rhiannon and her husband. His foals would die as soon as they were born. He found a human baby and a foal in his barn one night. He and his wife raised the baby. They named him Gwri Golden Hair and he was a beautiful child. They gave him the colt for his own. Teuron came to the castle with the boy and saw Rhiannon at the gate. The son he was raising looked just like her. Rhiannon knew that Gwri was her son. The child was reunited with Rhiannon as she cried tears of joy. She was sane and Pwyll took her back as his wife. He was happy to have his son back. The child honored his birth parents as well as his foster parents. After Pwyll's death, Rhiannon and her son Gwri ruled the land for years. Gwri's name was changed to Pryderi. Rhiannon is one of the women you find mentioned on the list of Celtic women of Celtic times. ![]() ![]()
