They told us all he died a hero
I know that it’s true I didn’t know him But I hurt just the same He was helping our world He was helping theirs He was selfless and believed That he would make it back OK He made it back all right Just not OK IT’S NOT FAIR! So now his family grieves For their lost nephew, grandson, fiance, friend, son OUR lost son A son of patriotism A son of freedom A son of life A son of death It’s a tragedy It’s a shame He should be able to Rest in peace IT’S NOT FAIR! His unborn daughter will never know him His mother will never hug him again We can only honor him now Yet they march across the street From where his flag draped coffin lies They are protesting the war That gives them the freedom To condemn him And all in the name of God? IT’S NOT FAIR! I want to tell them it’s cruel I want to tell them they’re wrong I want to tell them to go back to Kansas And let a hero lie in peace But that’s what they want They want the confrontation They want the turmoil They want the press They won’t get it from us We are a proud people Proud Southern people With respect for our soldiers And all they stand for All they fight for All they die for Yet I’m still angry Because IT’S NOT FAIR IT’S JUST NOT FAIR!
