Last year on Valentine's Day, I wanted to get up a little early to catch my early-riser husband Rich before he left for work. But as I rubbed the sleep from my eyes, I got the suprise of my life: I was lying in a bed of pink and red foil hearts!
There must be a hundred! I thought to myself, stunned. There were shiny red ones and luminescent pink ones, small ones and big ones and each had a little message written on it. Thank you for being you, I read on one. I love you, on the next. How sweet! I thought as I read a few more.
Then, looking around, I realized there was a trail of hearts leading out the bedroom door. I followed the trail all the way out to the living room, my heart soaring as I read the notes, each sweeter than the next. Some were silly candy-heart messages like, My Special Girl, Me- U=Blue. Others reminded me of inside jokes or intimate sayings we shared, like MILF, our secret code for "Make It Last Forever," which we told each other every night before bed. One note simply had a date written on it--our wedding date.
I can't believe he did this! I thought, tears in my eyes. And as I followed the sweet heart trail, I caught my romantic husband, pen in hand, writing notes and placing them on the loveseat, tables--even the refrigerator.
I just stared at him quietly, not wanting to spoil the moment. Suddenly, Rich turned, and when he saw me, disappointment clouded his face.
"Oh you caught me!" he said. "I wanted it to be a surprise."
"Oh Rich," I cried, "this is a surprise, the best one ever!"
I stepped into his arms and we kissed.
"Thank you for doing this," I whispered, my heart overflowing with love.
For my romantic, loving husband had found a way--hundreds of ways--to say, "You're my Valentine."
