Stepping Stones
Well, I wanted to cross the River of Life,
To get to the other side.
The grass over there looked green and fair,
The burdens seemed oh so light.
The path over here is not very clear,
You know, I struggle with every stride.
How could I have known that those shakey steps,
Were precious in God’s sight?
Well, I wanted to swim up the River of Life,
To search out its One True Source.
There must be a lake, a leisurely place,
Where I could be safe and warm.
But rocks on the way caused so much delay,
That I never reached paradise.
How could I have known those were stepping stones
To show me the path of Life?
Well, I came to the River to drink of the water of Life
And the moment I tasted His love something changed inside
Well, I wanted to walk on the River of Life,
To be more like Christ each day.
I wanted to walk in the Spirit’s power
A miracle every day !
I wanted to run in God’s marathon,
But I tripped at the starting gate.
How could I have known that those stepping stones
Could teach me to watch and pray?
Well, I couldn’t cross over the river
I couldn’t swim up to the lake there
I couldn’t walk on the water
And I couldn’t run miles a day
Well, I came to River to drink of the water of Life.
And now I’ve drunk deeply my heart is fully satisfied.
So now, I’ll be content with God’s promises,
I’ll trust Him and obey.
A thousand mile journey takes a step or two each day.
And as I abide in His Spirit,
Well, I’m learning to walk by faith.
And I will proceed up the River of Life
Step by step and day by day.
Come to the River of Life. Come to the River of Life.
Come to the River and drink and be satisfied.
