This story is written about a true life experience. When my mother died, I was very young. My family were very poor and we moved way back in the forest in an old woodman's camp. I was very lonely and my only friends were the birds, bees and trees along with the animals in the forest.
An Unusual Perch Little Jenny and her family made their home deep in the thick of the forest. She was very lonely. Her mommy had recently died and she missed her so much. Now she had no one to play or talk with, no one except the birds, bees and trees. Early every morning Jenny would leap out of bed and dart outside. Sitting on her favorite stump she would talk to the birds, bees, and trees. She would tell them, "How gifted, how smart and how brave you all are." She also would say, "How lonely, how afraid and how sad I am now that my Mommy has died." Little Jenny would cry and ask, "Will you please be my friends? I am so lonely, and I feel all alone." The trees would wave and nod their branches. Jenny would laugh and wave happily back to them. She would spread her arms out wide, and on tippy toes dance to the melodies created by the bees as they buzzed merrily by. The birds would take the time to talk to Jenny. They'd chirp noisily as they flew by, making a nose dive down by her side. Often they'd land near her feet or they would watch her from their nest high in the trees. One day, Jenny was in for a big surprise for a little bird dove down by her side. Up it soared down it swooped, perching itself in the midst of Jenny's hair. She was so excited she jumped to her feet with joy but zoom away it fled. "Oh no,” Jenny cried in dismay, "I've frightened my new friend away." She vowed to sit quietly if only it would return. Then to her delight he circled around and around hovering near by. Up he soared, down he swooped gliding to rest again in Jenny's hair. Jenny sat very quietly as she talked ever so softly. She asked the bird, "Where is your Mommy, has she died, are you sad, lonely and afraid? Don't you have any friends to talk and play with either?" "Chirp, Chirp, Chirp," the bird replied. ,"Jenny you’re a friend of mine." Jenny knew this was what the bird had to say. Reaching up she ruffled his feathers. He sat quietly for a few minutes then, in a flash, he took flight. "Oh," Jenny squealed with glee, "I'm so happy now to live in the forest with all the birds, the bees and trees." Thank you for being my friends I will never be lonely again.
