Bottoms Up!

It seemed harmless at first, I thought lying back in bed looking up at the brilliant white ceiling. Just when was the first time I put the poisonous liquid to my lips? I couldn’t really remember, then again, isn’t that what alcohol does to the brain? What else would slip away from my memory as the brain cells deteriorate?
I wondered just what the day held for me because I had endured long, painful, sleepless nights. Unbelievable was the trembling and cold sweats. I knew I had to do this! I had indeed hit rock bottom. There truly was no place else to go but up, for me.
I sprang out of bed with renewed energy, got dressed and walked downstairs, into the lobby where the meetings were always held. Just above the entrance door my eyes rested on a sign: “Jackson alcohol Rehabilitation Center”
I lowered my head and took in a deep breath. I prayed for the courage to complete this, first, of many, classes to come and the strength to overcome my disease.
I made my way threw the door and took a seat in the main back. I watch the remaining empty seats fill up slowly. The head of the class took to the microphone. We will start today’s session with the introduction of our newest member who we are extremely proud of.
Everyone please welcome, Sara Parker.
I slowly stood, trembling inside, “Hi, my name is Sara Parker, and I am an alcoholic.”
