Shading
A colour poem written for Lynn Hicks' Color My World: Splat contest.

Azure tears slip from eyes roiling like January
clouds churning in a blizzard's heart.
Bitter, bile tasting memories drain
all brilliance from the sun, and
bleach the warmth
from the world.
Ice claims fertile land.
Silence looms. Frozen blood stalls.
Life sprints past the crystalline prison,
ghostly lemmings racing towards a bottomless void
where they linger, trapped in glacial despair.

Words, a burst of love; explosions of sound
shred the void with shards of hope. The ice cracks.
The deep purple of early life blooms,
stretching from a
viper black east. Light from a dawn star
reflects off the icy past as it melts, forming
rivers of
love, friendship, joy and peace. The future.
Gardens of possibility swirl about my feet, blood
bursts through unused veins;
thoughts race, dizzy
with chaos and frenetic bliss. Life renewed.
