SPECIAL PEOPLE
*
Dedicated to those who serve and defend
*
Just a young lad who went off to war,
leaving behind his family and friends,
knowing only that he would do his best
for on him everyone at home depends.

Just one of many aboard the ship
that would take them so far away,
to a country that was so ravaged
by war; a soldier's price to pay.

The fighting was fierce and deadly,
Korea would take such a great toll;
Scenes of the destruction burned into
his very heart and deep into his soul.

A warrior in battle was not his choice
of what to be; in solitude he cried
for peace and God's help to survive,
as one by one, another friend died.

He was one of many who wore with pride
the patch of the brave Thunderbird,
and fifty years later he remembers all;
the sounds of war, the screaming heard.

His dream back then of coming home
would turn into a welcome reality;
He vowed to make a much better life
and the chance to keep freedom free.

The "Forgotten War" never forgotten,
he still continued on, and to write
the memories of those days in Korea,
still tries to make sense of the fight.

He flies his flag both day and night
and he contributes all that he can,
to honor each and every youngster who
leaves a boy and soon becomes a man.

He is but one of many old soldiers
who knows that Freedom isn't free,
just one of many veterans who know
the price we must pay for liberty!

They are all such special people,
those who serve and defend our land,
but to this Thunderbird I'll say:
"By your side I'm proud to stand!"

Special people come into our lives
and special people quite often go,
leaving behind only the memories
with a very thankful after-glow.
