An Internet Love Story
My internet love story was a tale of twists and turns, but I just go on faith. I know that this sounds naïve, but I really believed these things work out the way they’re suppose to. I met Michael on March 15 or 16 in 2003. I was newly divorced and very new to the internet. I was looking for true love and Michael seemed to be the one.
I’d joined an MSN Group called “Erotic Whispers” and one day when I was on the site I saw a classified ad from Michael. He lives on Long Island and I was living in Oregon at the time. I never answered such ads, normally, but for some reason I answered this one and we hit it off famously. We’d talk all through his lunch hours and since his boss was on vacation, we’d talk other times of the day too. The weekend my mother decided to totally remodel the kitchen, from the floor up and all new appliances to boot, Michael called from New York, at least 10 times since the silly cordless phone battery kept dying. By that time I’d gotten used to his warm ‘Hi Baby’ hellos and really hungered for them.
The next Wednesday night, around 11 pm I got this phone call from a woman claiming to be his landlord and fiancé to boot! She ranted and raved at me for 5 minutes until I finally hung up. It took almost a week, and telling Michael he was a coward for not facing me, to get him to talk to me again. I began to have some worries then. He said it was all a pack of lies and “Please don’t let her upset you, baby”.
We’d planned to meet at the earliest time possible, and then he asked me to marry him! It seemed we were both deeply in love and meant for each other. Then he said he was moving back to the West Coast and where would I like to live?? I told him all about Reno, Nevada; no State tax, lots of jobs, how quiet it was and how the small town atmosphere abounded. He said it sounded great. This was in July 2003 and he was due in Salem, Oregon in September, but suddenly he just stopped calling and writing e-mails in late July.
I cried and ripped up all the MSN messages and Yahoo messages he’d sent me, and just kept crying. Finally in Late October or early November he finally answered me again. Saying that he just wasn’t comfortable moving that far when his mother was sick and in a nursing home in Chicago. It all sort of made sense, but I had hardened my heart a little and just took it with a grain of salt. We talked a few times a week until June of 2005 and then he went silent again. Then in September 2005 he wrote and said "just talk to me". I haven’t heard from him since. I did write but I haven’t heard a word from him except for one message in 2006, but then both of his emails lasped and I haven't heard from him since.
