Sound-Proof

You blaze your incandescent fury
Through the night,
Navigate by cigarette light,
And leave a perfumed trail
Of ash and smoke
To remember you by.
I’m lost among the stars
You call your own
And know by heart
Running between fast moving cars
Bent double, your breathless
Reckless laugh.
Deep inside your sound-proof skin
You’re numb,
Protected from everything,
And only the warm rain gets in.
I have to laugh
As you raise your arms and spin,
Lit by brazen streetlamps,
A dancing, manic silhouette,
You grin your wayward grin,
Shake your soaking hair
And take another swig.
