The paths I’ve walked to win your heart Winding and magic Now threadbare and worn Like a comfortable old shoe A friend nonetheless from whom You never part The light I held in my heart for you Loving and warm Now dimming but tender Like a beacon of comfort still Some small glimmer of hope that You loved me, too So do I wait and hold my breath And watch these ashes, ever cold? Or do I dare and blow awhile And see them spark and burn away? Soft the thought of love forever Eternal flame content to stay.
