Life Goes On
To my friend who lost her daughter to cancer...

I know you loved her, she knew it too;
She gave that same love back to you.
But life goes on and so will she;
You hold her close in memory.

How cruel life is, how harsh and cold
that young ones die before they're old.
But life goes on and so will she;
Treasured in your memory.

The sun came out, the sky is blue
but there's no comfort there for you;
That life goes on increases pain...
seems unreal...seems insane.

People laughing, hugging close
the ones they love the very most;
That life goes on increases pain...
seems unreal...seems insane.

You know that you will never smile
though others say it takes a while.
Life goes on, time won't stand still;
but you are sure for you it will.

For now you cannot hear the voice
that someday you will make the choice.
If life goes on then so can you,
but only if you want it to.

You cannot hurt the one who left
nor comfort her by your bereft.
For life goes on and so must you,
but only if you want it to.

The cruelest thing of death is this:
to live without the one you miss.
Life goes on and so will she,
honored in your memory.

If she could talk, I'm sure she'd say:
"Live life, feel joy, smile today."
For life goes on for you, not she.
She'd want for you to be happy...

...for life goes on.
