Eyes
_____________________________________________

Who gave you those eyes?
I’d stood transfixed
mesmerized, immobile

Without words you embraced my being
Those eyes became a mirror
To your soul and mine

I long for those days
When wild rays shot through
Those eyes of yours

Touching and caressing my body
my being and my existence
I lived only for you

Would have killed for you, lied for you
died for you, lived on the edge
beyond morality, beyond remorse

Now, the room is empty
The broken door creaks and swings aimlessly
with the uneven desert wind

The light has dimmed
And hope is
but a desert mirage

Why does desire linger
I can still feel your soul
Through the fantasy of those eyes

I can still taste
the salt on your wet skin
And your eyelids touching mine

Why do I crave, search
wander through the desert
like a rootless Bedouwin

Lost in a primitive animal world
of human bondage
Who gave you those eyes?
