Searching for God
One persons search for God leads him right to what is in his own heart....

I look up to the sky
wanting to see Your face
knowing You are looking down
at all the human race.

But the bright blue sky and fluffy clouds
block my every view
I'm still left searching for
another way to You.

I peer into the ocean
hoping I will find
my loving father's eyes
looking back at mine.

But only waves and fishes
do my hazel eyes see
I'm off to find the place
my father could possibly be.

I walk across the desert
calling out Your name
hoping my search for You
will not end up the same.

But through the wind and twirling sand
You can not hear a word
though I am calling loudly
for my prayers to be heard.

I climb the highest mountain
right to the snowy top
so into your loving hand
I could easily hop.

But You must have gone for coffee
frozen from the chilly air
'cause though I hopped off the mountain,
Your hand was not there.

As I'm taken to the hospital,
I'm sure You are close by
I feel a finger wiping the tears
falling from my swollen eyes.

But I can hear a voice now calling me,
no, that could not be You
telling me that was such
a stupid thing to do.

I listened quite intently
as I laid quietly in my room
knowing you would come to me
as I had come to You.

But all who's come to see me
is a preacher or two
when word got around
that I went in search of You.

I am able to walk again,
a miracle they say
I know I should be happy
I did not die that day.

But all I can think about,
is what the preachers said to do
there’s only one way to heaven
only one way to You.

I kneel before this altar,
a hospital chapel though it may be
I will take the way they say I should
for You to be known by me.

I ask for Your forgiveness,
look deep down in my heart,
You show through all my searching
You were right there from the start.

I can see the face long hidden,
the eyes once gone unseen,
I hear Your soft voice whisper,
"In My hand you'll always be."
