Perfect
A poem I wrote about an alien race that takes the world over, making it 'Perfect'.

The spaceships came hard and fast,

Taking Earth in one foul swoop,

They told us they were making a change,

They told us they were putting things right to our despicable race,

Their lasers may have reached our civilisations at the time, turning them all to dust,

But their lasers never reached our hearts,

No, we banded together,

Put up a standard over all the lifeless corpses of our comrades,

Charged, burned, stabbed, killed,

But they were far superior,

Within less than two days, the worldwide last stand was annihilated.

Now as I write,

Occasionally glancing out of my abode at the sweeping searchlights of these strange robots outside of the metallic windows,

The glass of these windows aren’t even made by our own hands,

Made by the next evolution in technology, the next evolution in life even,

The Martian revolution,

I laugh at my own creation: The Martian revolution, for these Extra Terrestrials never came from Mars,

In fact, now that I think about it, the windowpanes aren’t even real, their merely holographic, the Extra Terrestrials told us it was “made to replicate your race’s earlier artifacts for seeing the daylight”,

That’s what we call the Martians, yes, Extra Terrestrials,

They have set up their own government here on Earth,

Far advanced to our governments, whatever they were,

Martian word is Law.

There is only one punishment for breaking an Extra Terrestrial Law – Torture, I never know what kind though, these ill-fated people have never lived to tell me,

They have stamped out most of our race’s heritage, the primitive cultures, our languages; the only one that has lived on is the ‘Englosh’,

I was born one generation after they took our planet, so I do not know how life was before, only garbled stories gathered from my parents and others,

These Extra Terrestrials, staring one in the eyes is like looking into the eyes of ‘Devil’, my parents said that word is bad, so I figured to use it.

I have once witnessed a person die by their lasers, the sudden flash, the screams, then the Extra Terrestrials proceed to eat the person, while he is still alive but paralyzed, chomping heartily into the person’s flesh, the bulging eyes staring down at the fast disappearing body,

It makes me almost choke,

Yet I do not know why, it should have been a joyous moment; the person had broken the Law,

But now, as I think, I find that we have been more advanced, technology, my parents said, was the last thing our races’ heritage was working on,

And now we have that,

World peace we were also working on,

And now we have that,

“We live a perfect world. A perfect life. Rejoice and be glad in it.” The Extra Terrestrials tell us every day,

Whatever that means.
