AIR FORCE BLUES

Air Force blues, a uniform to be proud of!
Blues envelope him as he dresses to go,
Courting heartbreak at the funeral of a man
Dead some sixty years, returned to his home.
Eulogy, words written to honor the fallen.
Forgotten by many, remembered by family;
Ghost-like bodies lying in snow, waiting,
Home has never been so far away for them.
Ice-men, frozen, but found by hikers
Just out for a climb on the fatal mountain;
Kin asked the poet to come to the service.
Lou will go and stand tall in Air Force Blues.
Mothers of all sons lost too soon, will weep,
Never able to see their sons, to bring them home;
Open wounds for so many years for so many.
Praise God, some will be given a place of rest.
Quietly, the family stands, listening to the silence
Resounding over the coolness of the air,
Standing at attention, men in Air Force Blues listen as
Taps are played and the 21-gun Salute echoes;
United we stand, for we are brothers!
Victory over death granted by God Himself;
Weep not, for they have joined the angels!
Xanthous children have yet to learn tragedy.
Youth lost sixty years ago, as a plane went down;
Zestfully entering a never-land where only the lost can go.

Note:
Dedicated to Lou-New Chapter, Same Book who wrote a poem for Leo Mustonen, whose remains were found sixty years after an Air Force Training Flight crashed. His family saw the poem, and invited Lou to come to the service. A sad day as an Airman stands to honor a brother.
