A love poem, for whom?

If you loved me
I would have sung every song possible to learn
I would have recited poetry, sonnets, declarations of love
Smiles would have taken on a new meaning,
         my eyes so bright,
         dazzling the milky way
I would have climbed Everest, scaled the Great Wall of China
attained the summits of perfection in any matter
I would have become a brilliant doctor, a clever lawyer,
I would have painted masterpieces of colors defying imagination
I would have collected riches of gold and precious stones
so that your final days retained the peace of our life together
I would have built houses so vast,
filled with treasures only your eyes could behold
gardens of flowering beauty for your solitary pleasure
I would have listened to your tales, your life's history
sat at your feet in admiration
I would have attained the best seller list,
writing of espionage, of laughter, of fantasy or fiction
for the simple pleasure of dazzling your idle moments
each book dedicated with love, special editions engraved in gold
I would have filled Carnegie Hall, the Metropolitan opera
played Shakespeare on the most prestigious stages
graced Hollywood for your contentment from private projections
I would have become president, ambassador
         spreading intelligent actions worldwide
I would have founded companies serving humanity
I would have known peace, and shared it willingly
I would have conquered worlds, planets, discovered new stars
speaking the languages of the poor and rich alike
I would have founded schools for all children
knowing to share right and wrong
         the beautiful things of life
helping each one blossom with his individual talents
I would have followed your advice,
         indeed followed you anywhere,
to faraway countries, a tent in the desert, a tropical island
knowing the certainty of trust, understanding, accepting

There is nothing I could not have done,
         would not have envisioned
         to know your pride
If you loved me.
