speaking of silence
Poem for Lynn HIcks' Take My Phrase Contest.

waves break gently on deserted sands
a place for quiet meditation
yet in the middle of the desert heat
the sun speaks a different language
that of eternal patience
the sereinity of wintertime snowfall
is a blanket of soundless joy
gentle rain heralds the spring
no thundering impressions are needed
to watch nature blossom in silence

words between us have never been spoken
my questions are like Braille to your unhearing ears
you have never shared the answers
why is your silence so determined?

lone howling breaks this calm
cries of the wolf
I wail for what you have denied me

peace is short lasted
is it the nature of man and beast alike
to desire attention, seeking companionship
lone wolves howling for a mate
traveling in packs
children lamenting for unspeaking parents
traveling in families
where all silence should be forgotten

your words gone unsaid
weigh on the stillness of my life
I, like the wolf, howl in solitude

the sun will set quietly
the night, windless, inspires contemplation
in the haunted place where I used to dream
no birds call the beginning of day
the sun will rise in the silence of my tears
