COUNTING RAINDROPS

Counting raindrops might be easier
than counting the tears I've shed
or the many long nights I've waited
for the sound of his voice...

The telephone rings and I rush
to answer, only to hear a voice
checking to see if I'm all right,
or just to say hello; it isn't him.

I try to fill my days and my thoughts
with other things, unaware of loss;
I smile and walk and talk and
hardly ever...do I cry anymore...

Tonight the soft rains are falling
and I am outside, counting raindrops.
Mixed with my tears, I lose count.
I start over, counting raindrops.

No more tangles, no more tears.
Only the rain.
