one hundred-eighty degree horizon, one hundred-eighty bright luminous balls they had been stationary for three days, awaiting the full moon but who were they, why did they come now, what could they want how would we communicate with them? we are the star people, we wish upon Planet Earth from every vantage point, everywhere on the blue sphere one hundred-eighty bright lights on every horizon millions of humans greeting millions of bright stars millions of stars will respond to the same question, asked in every tongue who are you, do you come in peace, what do you want from me? we are the wishes each one of you made upon your own private star every human being understood perfectly the language simultaneously spoken at the hour of the full moon we have learned the words of each member of the earth community for each of us has been granted a soul mate on your planet he who wishes for riches, may have them, lest he satisfy my wish he who wishes for good health, may have it, lest he satisfy my wish he who wishes sincerely for peace, may have it, lest he satisfy my wish and so it was during this first encounter millions of star wishes to be granted if so many earth wishes exchanged what could be the wish of a star? they have already burned a hundred lifetimes they will continue to light the skies eternally could they want more astronauts, new human colonies more satellites buzzing, or even exciting nuclear explosions? humankind is a selfish lot, every man looking out first for himself to save yourselves you must now learn the harmony of working together only then may your community work peacefully to preserve the Planet Earth the galaxy won't survive an imminent explosion from mankind's folly if the wars of religion and capitalism persist, only total destruction can be gained you must learn to take care of your home so that harmony may reign in the heavens that is a the common wish of a million billion stars a blind man wishing for eyesight, his star asked him to help clean a river a young boy wanting a red bicycle, he must never use a car for transportation a young wife's wish for romantic roses daily, she must plant a new tree every year the doctor wanting an oversized yacht, must operate the needy the greedy lawyer must remain faithful to his wife and so the lists went on wishes granted in exchange for individual deeds to enhance the good of the community named Planet Earth wishing stars 23 april, 2006 (Writer's Cramp) (42 lines, 437 words)
