Haughtiness and the Rich

Haughtiness can destroy lives. A lot of people have been victims of this kind of attitude: people lording their position or who they are over others. It happens at work, school, church, and even in the home. Haughtiness is when a person thinks that he or she is superior to others. I think this happens a lot among rich people who feel that they're superior to others especially the poor. Why do these people feel that they're better than others? I won't try and answer this for fear that I'll become a judge of others, but these kinds of attitudes are totally disgusting. It never ceases to amaze me though that the wealthy feel this way about poor people. Don't get me wrong, I don't believe that all rich people are haughty, but there are some out there who feel this way and it's seen in their attitudes and conduct.

This haughty belief can lead to other absurded beliefs about the poor. For example, some rich people think that they have better sex (body parts) than the poor. They believe that if you're poor you couldn't possible have good sex much less better sex than them. I wonder how the rich people felt when the former mayor Marion Barry was busted in a sleazy hotel room with a prostitute smoking crack cocaine. I guess he forgot that he was rich ( or was he at the time? It doesn't matter he was still a very prominent
person and a public figure)and she was poor. I wonder if sex was a factor for him or was he just there for the crack? I've read that when he was a mayor that he genuinely cared about his constituents whether they were rich or poor, so I guess their body parts wasn't a factor: their sex. Nonetheless, I wonder how the rich felt? I don't know how the rich felt about this situation, but I'm sure a lot of poor people hooted!

Next, I wonder how they felt (the rich) when evangelist Jimmy Swaggart announced to his wife and the entire world via live television that he had been sleeping with prostitutes and had been doing so for quite some time. Prior to these acts, maybe God had showed him that he (God)was not partial about the rich people and the poor people, but instead of risking loosing big donations from his followers he decided to keep quiet about this revelation, and see for himself if there was a difference between the rich and the poor in that regards (sex).

Finally, I hope that I'm not putting these people down because then my perception about people would be wrong too, and I would fall into the category of being haughty and I don't want to be that like that. It's just that when I perceive an attitude like that (haughty) it makes me a little angry, but I'm not the judge of the people of this world God is, so I'll rest my case. Maybe one day the rich and others who are haughty, will see the light and change for the better. I sure hope so because then our world will be a better place to live in for all of us.

Note: The above statements does not necessarily reflect my beliefs about any person mention in this essay; however, I do believe that haughtiness does exist amongst humankind because it is in the Bible. Nonetheless, the above statements does not necessarily reflect my views of the people mentioned here.
