The Calling
War as a metaphor for life in high school

Sometimes it seems like all we do
Is show up angry or stressed
The meaning we lost was built in the walls
So deep it'd never progress

This building
It's war
And in our sight
The grandest scale of its time
Acceptance
Betrayal
This is our test
Now learn to fall into line

If you look in the dawn
And keep a clear mind
To see what becomes of us
The shrouds will call
Befalling us all
Confused and blasphemous

One world unprepared
After all this time
To answer the eternal question
For what will be worn
Now we battle for dreams
And I dread any form of regression

I've seen soldiers of dedication
Who stand to lose the most
The observers in isolation
A casuality, they boast

The young who are carefree
We lost out on the field
Our bitter, desperate companions
Oh, how they'd love to squeal

But as doctors we wonder
If it is a blunder
To care for all the falling
This much, I know
In the threats of war
You must follow the moral calling
