This poem was inspired by an image prompt. It's about running away because of fear.

Run from the Heart

Running away from the life that I know,
People to meet, and places to go
Memories to banish, mistakes to make right
All of this goes through my mind on that night.

Tears from my heart coming out of my eyes,
I expected this pain; why am I so surprised?
Why can't I just fix up all my mistakes?
I think on these things as my fragile heart breaks.

Running from heartache and pain, and the fear,
Trying to think that I really don't care
Keeping my course—and I'm not looking back
Don't dare look behind as my feet beat this track.

I keep up my pace as I run around bends,
Keep running and running but this never ends
I take a big turn through the darkness and find
I'm back at the start, where my heart is entwined.

I'm tired of fear, and of running away.
In some way I'm glad to start over today.
I promise, I won't run away anymore...
I take a deep breath and walk up to my door.
