A New Breed’s Hill
[from the Battle of Bunker's Hill in the American Revolution] The battle drum has made its sound, Our forces take the upper ground. Our banner waves above the field Our fates, our lives, therein are sealed. For by our choice we stand and fight, Our lives are bound to what is right. With courage now we face our foe, Our minds are steeled come weal or woe. So silent now, our guns are still Await the call, they rush the hill. With valor stand we ‘gainst their might The battle rages left and right. Our cause is just throughout the land, And blessed by God Almighty's hand, His strength in us prevails the day, For thrice our foe is turned away. The ammo fails and we must go, But in our hearts we surely know, The battle here is ours to claim, America, we’ve lit the flame. Yes, take the torch, and with it run, And when the victory is won, Still keep it bright with blood and sweat Against the ever present threat. For they will come again with skill, And this time they will take the Hill. This charge won’t come with might and dread They’ll take your guns with laws instead. For “greater good” they take your rights, And very slowly dim the lights, And when it’s dark, too late the shout, “The torch of liberty’s gone out!” America, the cause is true, The blood and sweat is up to you. Go take the Hill with voice and vote, And fight for what your forbears wrote. For though we lay within our graves, Our lives within the banner waves. Our testimonies therein sealed, And proven on the battlefield. By God with gun and guts we won, So take that torch, and with it run. The price of freedom’s always high, For tyranny will never die. Will you your sacred honor bind To own a gun and speak your mind? Will you your lives pledge in support The flag to bear your own report? Oh, let it be that you will say, With strong resolve to win the day, “The torch is burning, bright and free, The torch of life and liberty.” And let that lady hold it high, And let it rise into the sky, And let her hold our Bill of Rights Against her bosom through the nights. And let her watch our banner fly And let US speak against the lie That life and liberty are got When governments divide the lot. For peace is won when strength prevails, And God is sought for all our ails. When with our guns and guts we stand, By God and flag throughout the land. So citizens, rise up and be The stalwarts of the brave and free, And sound the bell and let it ring, Throughout that sacred hymn you sing: “America, America, God shed His grace on thee. And crown thy good, with brotherhood, From sea to shining sea.”
