Civil Disobedience

Sipping my coffee when
those niggers came in.
I dropped my cup,
a surprised clatter
as they sat at the counter.

How dare they?

The nerve!

Who do they think they are?

Rage infused the air.
Someone needs to teach
those darkies a lesson.
Angry words pressed at my lips.
The silence was broken.
A man in denim spoke,

"You better get your
black asses off those stools."

Righteous nods around me.
The four niggers, stoic,
remained seated.
Infecting Woolworth's,
putrifying the air...

Can't they read the sign?

What are they trying to do?

I'm afraid, I need to get out!

First Greensboro police,
now inciting reporters,
vultures...hovering,
over those niggers who
think they can sit
like crows on a line.

Something...

something needs to change around here.
