Fire

It warms us with its burning coals
when we're feeling so alone.
Soothing our bodies and souls
in the face of the unknown.

It saves us from the freezing cold
when icy winds will call.
A force of nature to behold
in the forest trees so tall.

We watch it in our hearths at night,
its reflections seem to crawl.
A tempting dance in seductive light,
phantoms on a midnight wall.

A living beast that needs to feed,
mesmerizing in its dance.
A demon's feast, it eats to breed,
catching us in its trance.

I'll rest my weary bones a bit
and use it to inspire.
Always a wary eye on it,
flames burning ever higher.
